
New Executive Committee elected through 27th Annual General Meeting
The 27th Annual General Meeting of Lumanti Support Group for Shelter held on 28th November 2020, Saturday, elected the seven-member executive committee headed by Dr. Anita Manandhar as the Chairperson for the two years period. Mr Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Mr Anil Sthapit and Ms Bijaya Raj Baidhya has been elected as the Vice-chair, General Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Other elected members in the committee are Dr Madam Manandhar, Umesh Malla and Sarala KC.
Prior to the closed session of the Annual General Meeting, a social audit program was conducted. The program was chaired by immediate past chair Ms Sushma Bajracharya. The Annual General Meeting and the social audit program was initiated with the welcome remarks from the immediate vice-chair Ms Gujeshwori Shrestha.
Followed by the welcome remarks was the presentation focusing on the annual progress of Lumanti by Dr Anita Manandhar as the General Secretary of the then Executive Committee. On her presentation highlighted the key thematic areas of Lumanti and said that Lumanti has been implementing its programs in 26 rural and urban centers covering 13 districts of all provinces except in 6 and 7. Mentioning the quantitative achievements of the fiscal year she said, in terms of housing support for the low income families, Lumanti has reached to 209 families benefitting 942 people whereas 10391 people from 777 households have accessed water facilities. She added, during this year 123 toilets were constructed in different areas mobilizing loan support or grant. Towards, empowering women, Lumanti has been promoting women saving and credit groups in every project intervening areas. This year, the number of groups reached to 1488 with 38890 members. She further said, Lumanti has been capacitating and strengthening the community groups and the people through different trainings on WASH awareness, disaster risk reduction, livelihood, housing and many others. Lumanti has conducted 109 trainings this year through which 3397 people were directly benefitted. In regards to the community improvement, Lumanti this year has constructed 13 community infrastructures like drainage, road ways and public spaces in different 13 communities as well. Apart from the regular thematic programs, Lumanti has extended its support during emergency, she stated. Lumanti, this year, has installed 24 hand pumps for the tornado affected families in Kalaiya, Bara. Lumanti was also conducted COVID-19 response program providing food package to the low income families, distributing WASH materials, medical supply for the elderly people and providing support to the quarantine stations in different areas. On her presentation, she also highlighted the approaches and modality of the program that Lumanti has executed in coordination and collaboration with the local government agencies. Concluding her presentation, she also underlined some challenges and way forwards.
The second presentation was by Mr Anil Sthapit as the Treasurer of the then Executive Committee of Lumanti. On his presentation, he highlighted the annual financial income and expenditure statement as of the audit report of the organization which is followed by the open floor discussion.
During the open floor discussion, the members of the Lumanti appreciated the work done by Lumanti and provided constructive feedback for further improvement.
Followed by the open floor discussion was the Executive Committee meeting through which selection of the auditor was done. The Finance Manager of Lumanti presented the quotations received by four different audit firms for final selection and on the basis of the indicators developed, Pradhan and Shakya Associates has been selected for the new fiscal year auditing contract. Through the same meeting, some amendments in Lumanti's statutes has been done. The meeting also decided to elect immediate past chairperson and Executive Director as the Ex-officio member of the committee.
