Disaster Risk Reduction & Community Resilience
Lumanti has been implementing Urban WASH and Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness Program in Kirtipur and Imadole, Lalitpur. The significant achievement served through the program is the 1237 trained volunteers to work in case of disaster or emergencies (especially on “Look, search and rescue” and First Aid trainings provided). Besides, the issue of disaster, which was being neglected by the people and government, is at least the priority issue in Kirtipur Municipality.
It has been considered as one of the key issues by the city council allocating budget to address the DRR needs of the city. Around 4000 volunteers were trained on first aid, logistic management, life search and rescue, WASH, operation and maintenance, damage assessment and need analysis and so forth.
After the earthquake, the learning and activities from Kirtipur has been replicated in other cities and villages such as Rasuwa, and in the new municipalities in Kathmandu. Besides Lumant acts as secretariat for National Community Resilience Fund and support the communities in building local resilience.
