Improved knowledge results better earning
These days Dil Kumari Neupane remains busy whole day building home in Rasuwa. She said, "I don't have to spend my single day staying idle. There are lots of housing construction going on in Rasuwa after earthquake."
Dil Kumari Neupane, resident of Dhaibung, ward no. 5 in Rasuwais the only women who have received mason training from Lumanti Support Group for Shelter. Since after the mason training, the daily lifestyle of Dil Kumari changes dramatically making herself fully engaged in construction works in Rasuwa.Now she is not only working as the mason but also capable to take the construction contract in her community and around making her enable to earn her family living much better than earlier. DilKumari is living with her husband and six children. Her husband is engaged in agriculture and look after farming.
In partnership with Cord Aid, Lumanti Support Group for shelter has been implementing reconstruction program providing support for building 380 houses in Laharepauwa and Dhaibung VDCs in Rasuwa. Apart from building house the project is also focused for community capacity building initiatives on disaster risk reduction and build back safer techniques.
"I was approached to participate for the mason training from Lumanti. I gathered 19 other local mason, all are men, and attended the training," she claimed. She added, "I got an opportunity to learn about the work more clearly through trainings and now I have been passing the knowledge to other local mason as well."
Emphasizing the importance of earthquake resistance technology she said, "Our house was not build properly that is why it collapsed when the massive earthquake hit the ground.We lost our roof because of our own lack of knowledge about proper construction." When the devastating earthquake occurred in April 2015, she was away from her house, working. She hurried back to her house and brought her children who were still inside the house to the open field. Aftershock that followed the earthquake destroyed her house completely. She said, “If I hadnot reached my house on time, I would have lost my children.”
Building new home is DilKumari's dream but she is not being able to materialize her dream. She along with her husband is working hard to earn their living and said that they will build a new house when they will be able to collect enough money for the house.
