
Enhancing the knowledge of CHVs and FCHVs
With the objective to enhance the knowledge of FemaleCommunity Health Volunteers (FCHVs) and Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) on communicating health and hygiene awareness messages in the communities, LUMANTI in partnership with Oxfam has been conducting orientation program in different cities in Kathmandu.
The CHVs/FCHVs of District Public Health Office, Kathmandu working in the project sites of Lumantiwere given the knowledge on modes of transmission of diarrhoea and its prevention, environmental sanitation, Oral Rehydration Solution preparation, Hand washing techniques, Menstrual hygiene, methods for safe conservation of water, personal hygiene and many more.
Around 315 CHVs/FCHVs working in Old Naikap, Thankot,Machhegaun, Satungal, Badhbhanjyang, Kirtipur, Ramkot, Syuchatar, Chaimmale, Dakshinkali, Chalnakhel, and Sheshnarayan participated in the orientation program. Those CHVs/FCHVs who are being mobilized by the District Public Health Office for various health and hygiene promotion activities in the respective communities are expected to disseminate the knowledge that they have gained during the orientation program in the disaster affected areas to prevent the people from epidemic. At the end of every orientation program, the participants CHVs/FCHVs have prepared an action plan to bring the effectiveness in their mobilization so that they make the health stakeholders of the respective areas alert on the probable disease outbreaks.
