Community Information Center launched in Kalaiya
The Mayor of Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City Rajesh Ray Yadav inaugurated the Community Information Center on 25th December 2019 in Bhawanipur community in Kalaiya. The center is established at the Community Building.
The City information center is established with the primary aim to ease the people of the different poor communities in Kalaiya in accessing information about the services and facilities that they can get from the local government. Besides the information related to the service and facilities from the local agencies, the center is collecting all the information about local culture and tradition, tourism and business with the motive to promote the entire city. Apart from the information dissemination, the center also mobilises its youth volunteers to assist the people in getting the services and facilities from the municipality and other agencies without any cost. The center also intends to organise the local youth who are staying idle by engaging them in different social activities and campaign. The city information center is established under the project being implemented by Lumanti Support Group for Shelter in partnership with Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City.
On the inaugural occasion, the Community Information Center was handed over to the local organisation, Urban Poor Alleviation Forum (UPAF), for its regular operation and management. UPAF is being supported and promoted by Lumanti and being engaged as one of the key partner of Lumanti and Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City for improving the living condition of the poor communities.
Addressing the inaugural program, the Mayor of the city expressed his happiness in initiating the community information center and appreciated the support from Lumanti. He also expressed his commitment for all required support from the Sub- metropolitan office in managing the Community Information Center.
The Chief Administrative Officer Hari Narayan Belbase of the Sub-metropolitan City on his remarks encouraged the people of the communities to visit the information center and the Sub-metropolitan city as well to access the required services and facilities from the local government and said expressed his belief that the information center would be the prime and easy channel for the local people to access the information and the services from the local government.
Municipal officer Mustak Ansari recalled his memory and talked about initiation of Sub-metropolitan City's partnership with Lumanti for the community improvement activities. He also appreciated all the efforts and dedication of Lumanti in transforming the lives of poor people of Kalaiya.
The ward representatives from different ward offices in Kalaiya thanked Lumanti for the initiation and support in establishing the center and expressed their commitment for its promotion in their respective wards and communities so that more and more people get benefitted.
Chairperson of UPAF Rabindra Prasad Shah presented the detail expenses in establishing the Community Information Center as a part of Social Audit.
Documentation and Information Management Coordinator of Lumanti, on his remarks, talked about the objective behind the establishment of community information center and highlighted the essentiality of the center in context of deprived poor communities. He also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of local youth as the citizen and encouraged the local youth for their active engagement for social activities and campaign. He also urged the need of the regular support and encouragement of the Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City office for the engagement of the local youth for the effective management and operation of the Community Information Center.
Field Coordinator of Lumanti, Abdul Kaish highlighted the activities of the Community Information Center and talked about essentiality of socio-economic and demographic information of the entire city and expected Municipal support for the mobilization of the UPAF volunteers for the study project. He also expressed Lumanti's back-up support for the youth volunteers for completing the study project.
During the program, Lumanti has also provided 5 computers for the Community Information Center which will be used to store the city information and also be utilized to capacitate the local youth in using computer application through regular trainings.
More than 140 people from the community, women groups, youth clubs including municipal officers and representatives attended the program.
