Three days CSAR training conducted in Godawari
Community Search and Rescue (CSAR) Training was carried out for twenty seven participate in Pokharitar, Godawari 13, on 7th-9th June, 2017. The three days training was organized by Lumanti Support Group for Shelter, with support from EWDE-DKH Nepal in coordination with Ward, Godawari-13 and Community Disaster Management Committee (CDMC) under its project 'Integrated reconstruction and rehabilitation support, and enhancement of resilience of earthquake affected communities of Lalitpur district.'
The main objective of the training was to train the participants in the techniques and methods necessary for searching, locating, stabilizing and extricating people trapped by earthquake and fire; using the safest and most appropriate procedures for the rescuer as well as the victim.
During the course, the participants learnt about different types of disasters in Nepal including detail knowledge about the composition of disaster management system in Nepal and practices adopted in disaster management at national, regional, district and local levels as well as identified their role and responsibility under local disaster management system in Nepal. They gained basic knowledge on type of structure and construction materials, and basic collapse patterns and operational safety standards. They also learnt about rescue strategies & techniques for situations on fire, landslide and flood. The participants acquired the knowledge on different methods of searching and locating such as hailing search, line search, canine search, physical search, technical search and multiple room searches etc.
During the training, participants learnt the knowledge and skills on how to apply first aid in different situations such as bleeding, fracture, and spinal injuries, and stretcher making as well as lifting and moving. They also realized the importance of first aid in saving lives of the victims during emergency situations. In the practical sessions they practiced different types of bandaging techniques for wounds and fractures. They also learnt about various types of lifting and moving techniques including normal and emergency situations.
The training was dedicated to practical applications where the participants had learnt about the use of rope, fire management and all practical skill dealt during training by simulation exercise.
In the closing session, Mr. Vaskar Thapa, Chairperson of Godawari ward-13 distributed certificates to all the participants.
