Housing for 30 low-income families in Bhauraha community in Kalaiya has been completed. Mayor of Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City Mr. Rajesh Rao Yadav inaugurated the housing in Bhaura community in Kalaiya on 24th March 2022. 
 

This housing project was formally launched by Lumanti in collaboration with Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City with support from Abbe Pier Foundation, MISEREOR and Build Up Nepal on 19th February 2021. Lumanti provided grant worth NRs 150000.00 for each beneficiary households whereas the Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City provided NRs 1800,000/- for 30 families and Build Up Nepal provided additional NRs. 50000/- for each family. The community mobilization and other socio-technical support has been mobilized under MISEREOR supported program in Kalaiya. For the complete construction the houses, the beneficiary households have used their saving and some have received soft loan from Urban Community Support Fund. 
 

Urban Community Support Fund is the city level fund established by Lumanti in different cities including in Kalaiya in collaboration with concerned Municipality and other city stakeholders including private sectors. The city level coordination committee has been formed to mobilize the fund. The Mayor of the Municipality is positioned as the head of the committee and Lumanti as the secretariat. Other city stakeholders are the member of the committee which also includes the representatives from the community federation, youth group and local women cooperatives. The Fund is being mobilized through the local women saving and credit cooperatives. The specific policy and guidelines have been designed for the mobilization of the fund in favour of the poor families in the poor and informal settlements with minimum interest rate. People in the communities are taking loan from the Urban Community Support Fund for various purposes including housing and WASH infrastructure improvement, livelihood, education, medicine and to meet their social and cultural needs.
 

Lumanti has introduced CSEB inter-locking bricks in technical collaboration with Build UP Nepal for the construction of the houses. The Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City has provided funding support to purchase bricks production machine for the community-based organization (UPAF) who is supporting for the production of bricks along with the labour contribution from the beneficiary households.
