
Public hearing program conducted in four cities
Lumanti Support Group for Shelter has conducted a Public hearing program to share and discuss the achievements of activities undertaken in the IDP camps in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kirtipur separately under the project titled Supporting Durable Solutions for Earthquake Displaced and Affected People Living in Camps.
Large number of participants representing the government agencies, respective municipalities, political parties, CBOs, IDPs, including Mayor and Executive Officers from the municipalities, officials from NRA district offices and community leaders and members of different committees, women groups from IDPs sites attended the event.
On each event, representative of Lumanti presented the paper highlighting the program achievements along with challenges and learnings that Lumanti has experienced during the implementation of the project activities which is followed by open floor discussion. During an open floor, the participants from the IDPs raised their challenges related to congested camp room, expensive rent and land ownership issues. Some of them also talked about lack of clean and safe drinking water, inadequate toilet facilities, debris cleaning, family dispute and children education.
Representatives from the government offices including municipalities and NRA district expressed their commitment in dealing with problems associated with residents of IDP campsites and other communities as well. They also stressed the need to follow government policies, rules and regulations to comply with government standard.
