
Reconstruction Program Initiated in Ramkot
Inception Program to rebuild houses of earthquake affected families in Ramkot at Nagarjun Municipality conducted on June 29, 2017. Around 100 participants including the newly elected Mayor of Nagarjun Municipality, Municipal Engineer, representatives from Laxmi Bank, Lumanti Support Group for Shelter and community people attended the inception program.
Speaking on the occasion Mayor of the Nagarjun Municipality Mohan Bahadur Basnet mentioned about the situation after the massive earthquake and appreciated the effort of Lumanti for providing technical support in this reconstruction phase. He also praised Laxmi Bank for providing loan at marginalized interest rate and appreciated the collaborative working modality of communities for the project. On his remarks he also announced and informed about the procedure for free municipal services for the approval of house designs for the earthquake victims. Emphasizing on developing infrastructures in the interventional areas he said, developmental works are to be realized by citizens of the area, upon receiving proposal and examining it, municipality is ready to allocate budget for the project. He added, project related with education, water, sanitation, hygiene, improvising livelihood opportunities and extension of roads are key prioritized subject matter that will be addressed by the municipality this year. He further added, education related proposals from the concerned communities are highly welcomed, emphasis on education and upliftment of the sector in Ramkot is necessary beside shelter priorities.
Addressing the gathering Chairperson of Lumanti Support Group for Shelter Sushma Bajracharya praised the effort of all and wished that individuals from the communities to get maximum benefits from this project. She also briefly mentioned about Lumanti’s first project that was held in Adheshwor.
Similarly, Akrur Acharya representative from Laxmi Bank expressed his views regarding shelter related loans which was especially designed for the deprived communities in Ramkot complying with the government regulation to support earthquake victims and deprived communities. He further mentioned about bank’s willingness to contribute towards livelihood support loans to the concerned individuals and beneficiaries.
Concluding the program Community Leader and Chairperson of Reconstruction Committee, Surya Man Tamang, talked about the earthquake, its devastation in entire communities and linkage with Lumanti Support Group for Shelter. On behalf of the community he expressed his gratitude to Lumanti team for its assistance and support in providing reconstruction opportunities to the marginalized communities of Ramkot. He said, Lumanti’s facilitation and coordination for making the government grant available to the deprived communities in addition to technical support for reconstruction is appreciable. It is a great opportunity for the entire communities to have Lumanti in the reconstruction sector, Surya Man Tamang added.
The formal inaugural session was followed by the stone laying ceremony. Mayor of the Municipality and Chairperson of Lumanti Support Group for Shelter jointly laid the foundation stone and initiated the reconstruction program in Ramkot.
Lumanti Support Group for Shelter is providing technical support to the earthquake affected families for building their houses. In addition, Lumanti is facilitating and coordinating for accessing finance for the needy families there. Around 150 families will be benefited through this initiation of Lumanti.
