WASH SDG Project in Kohalpur & Baijanath
The WAI's WASH SDG Project (July 2020-March2023), Banke’s core goal is to provide improved safe water, sanitation and hygiene products and services to the communities through demand generation from the communities, strengthening the local municipal bodies and linking them with private sector actors.
In the previous phase, the project created WASH committees (WSUCs) representing marginalized communities at different levels and also adhering to GESI and LNOB considerations. These committees are contributing to disseminate information in communities and representing, influencing and advocating the communities’ needs and view to the related government agencies.
Kohalpur and Baijanath municipalities have developed plans to functionalize, strengthen and manage existing water overhead tanks coordinating with NL consortium and private sector partners.
Likewise, the other key area of focus in Banke, are to complete the development of the WASH Plans in collaboration with the municipalities and operationalise the Citywide Sanitation Plan in Kohalpur, developed in Phase I, mainly: land demarcation, faecal sludge treatment plant design, construction and implementation of a sustainable service model.
