Disaster Risk Reduction & Community Resilience
Lumanti implemented a pilot project on 'Disaster Risk Reduction through School Program' in the two most vulnerable schools and communities in Kathmandu and Lalitpur in early 2000, when ‘disaster and earthquake’ was not given a high attention. This project basically focused on preparedness, capacity building, awareness and mobilization of youth groups to get engaged in reducing risk to disaster. Realizing the importance of disaster issues, Lumanti continued its engagement in this area and introduced 'Community Disaster Resilience Fund' in partnership with other women's organizations. The project on managing urban risk in partnership with the municipality and communities in Kirtipur gave a height to Lumanti’s work on risk management and building resilience.
