Two-days long Strategic Planning Workshop of NagarjunMunicipality focusing on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) commenced in Kathmandu. The workshop was primarily aims to develop strategic document of Nagarjun municipality focusing on WASH Sector through the discussion about the issues and sharing on Municipal Plan of the city. Around 25 participants representing the officials from Nagarjun Municipality and Lumanti attended the workshop. The workshop was conducted by Lumanti with support from Oxfam and facilitated by Prafulla Man Singh Pradhan, Past President of Lumanti and Chabi Gaudel, WASH Epert.
Since after the earthquake, Lumanti Support Group for Shelter with support from Oxfam has been implementing the “Nepal Earthquake Response” project in two different municipalities namely Nagarjun and Chandragir in Kathmandu district. Nagarjun and Chandragiri Municipality are the two municipalities which are affected by mega Earthquake on 25th April, 2015 and identified as an area for response by the WASH cluster during the emergency. Since then from the response to recovery phase the planned activities have been implemented in 14 ward of Nagarjun Municipality and 25 ward of Chandragiri. Municipality. The activities are being conducted in collaboration, partnership and coordination with the municipalities as well as other stakeholders such as MWASHCC, WWASHCC and health workers. Besides, WASH the other thematic cross cutting interventions is DRR, Shelter and GESI.
Especially, in Nagarjun Municipality, the progress in WASH Sector is becoming more fascinating as one of the ODF (Open defecation free) declared Municipality that ranked 2nd to state ODF Municipality of Kathmandu district. The Sanitation progress in the municipality is largely supported and initiated by the MWASHCC (Municipality Water Sanitation and Hygiene Coordination Committee) thus, for the advancement of the existing sanitation progress, MWASHCC of Nagarjun Municipality is keen to develop a Strategy document focusing on WASH sector particularly in Sanitation.
